Quality of Life Matters

The Quality of Life Matters newsletter is provided as an educational service by Hospice of the Piedmont and is intended for use by physicians and other health professionals.  Now in its tenth year of publication, Quality of Life Matters is recommended by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.  The periodical is dedicated solely to end-of-life care news and clinical findings and is researched and written by professional medical journalists who specialize in covering palliative care issues.  It is an independent publication; it is not affiliated with any health care organization or company.  The quarterly newsletter is published by Quality of Life Publishing Co., a firm dedicated to easing the way for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Hard Choices

Hard Choices covers the most common medical treatment decisions faced by those who are living with a life-threatening illness. CPR (resuscitation efforts), artificial feeding, hospitalization of an ill person and shifting to a hospice approach are all considered in depth.  Besides these most common treatment decisions, there are sections on ventilators, dialysis, antibiotics and pain control. Also, at the end of the chapters on CPR, Artificial Feeding and Comfort Care/Hospice there is a section on making these treatment choices for children.  This book is not just for the elderly but for anyone facing a life-threatening illness.
